Curious what this looks like in practice? Watch the video in which our colleague Wouter talks about his work as a Data Scientist.
I am Wouter, 26 years old. I have been working at CIMSOLUTIONS since August 2024 in the role of data scientist.
We have various internal teams within CIMSOLUTIONS AI. I started with the Virtual Assistant project. And about a year ago, I switched to another internal project called VersaDoc. Here, we are essentially working on a kind of next-level chatbot that needs to be multimodal. This also means that it must be able to handle complex images, such as manufacturer instructions, in order to answer truly complex questions.
Within the VersaDoc project, we have actually split the team into two parts. We have one team, which we call the production team, which mainly consists of fellow software engineers. I am a data scientist slash AI engineer, and I am essentially in the R&D field. This means that I mainly focus on researching how we can make the product, as it currently works, work even better in its current state. So, how can we ensure that answers become more complete, but also how can they be generated faster, and how can we ensure they are truly accurate and that all the necessary points to provide a good, complete answer come to light?
Personally, I find this a fun role. It is very challenging; you are essentially in a kind of playground. You look at a product that already does what it is supposed to do, and you have to dive into new literature and new research to find small angles. How can we take this product to a higher level now, and how can we ensure that we add new functionalities that the customer actually benefits from?
I want to develop myself much further in the field of data science. I think I have made many great strides over the past few years, but ultimately, I would also like to be able to train an entire team of junior colleagues, for example. Essentially in the same way I experienced my own education and training within CIMSOLUTIONS. I have also been able to learn a lot in the area of soft skills. Mainly to be able to step out of my role as a data scientist and start thinking about what is important to the client and how I can deliver added value to the client with my knowledge.
It is quite a unique position within CIMSOLUTIONS not to be in secondment. However, when you get together at branch meetings, for example, or have internal knowledge-sharing sessions with the AI Competence Center, you also speak with colleagues who are in secondment, resulting in quite an interesting exchange or sharing of knowledge. In this way, I can learn a lot from colleagues with more experience in the field, and colleagues—especially in the area of data science—can learn a lot from my experience within the research and development team.
So, are you looking for a fun, challenging position where you can develop yourself in many different ways? Then be sure to apply for this vacancy!
Besides our focus on the latest technologies, we also support you with more traditional Business Intelligence solutions. We help you ask the right questions of your data: What are your key performance indicators (KPIs)? What do you want to manage? How exactly do your processes work? Our specialists perform in-depth analyses and provide you with the insights you need to make better decisions.
At CIMSOLUTIONS, we believe that data leads to information, information to knowledge, and knowledge to insight to make the right decisions. With our expertise, we help you unlock this insight and decision-making process within your organization and create real business value.
Curious what this looks like in practice? Watch the video in which our colleague Ellen Stevens explains how she advises organizations as a data engineer.
What I really like about data is that there is so much of it, and it is often not even clear to other colleagues, other people, how much information you can get from it.
My name is Ellen. I have found data simply fun and very interesting for years and I get to work with it every day, because I work at CIMSOLUTIONS as a data engineer.
As a data engineer, I just like that we have so much data, that I can structure it and that I can get from it what is useful for colleagues or for other people. And that I can just show it to them in a clear, visual way.
I have been working at CIMSOLUTIONS since 2022. Actually, when I started, I first had a two-month traineeship. And it is also very nice that you learn the scrum process, for example, prepare your CV in advance to do the interviews later. But it is also mainly a bit of getting to know how it is in the business world, or how an assignment will be, so it is actually just a simulation of an assignment for two months.
I was looking for something in consulting anyway, because I also like seeing different workplaces, or having different assignments. I definitely like it now that I start somewhere and that I stay there for a year and that I develop something there and that I can then move on to something new to learn something new.
I really like it within CIM that I always have contact with other colleagues. That many activities are organized. We have a branch meeting once every two months, where you actually see all your colleagues, we eat together, we hear a presentation from other colleagues about their work, we hear something about the figures. In addition to those branch meetings, we also have other activities. We have the sports day, we also have something with Sinterklaas, we have the New Year’s drink and we actually have a weekend away every year, which I think is the best. Last year I organized the weekend and I did that together with five other colleagues. And then you can actually fill in everything yourself, so the location, what are we going to do, the activities, what are we going to eat, so yes, we organized that ourselves. I enjoyed it so much that I am organizing it again this year with other colleagues.
Within CIMSOLUTIONS I also have a lot of contact with my own field manager. I talk to him about how the assignment is going, am I enjoying it, do I like it. But I also talk to him about where I see myself next year, or at my next assignment, or in two years. And I can stay very much within my own direction, so I can grow as a Data Engineer or Data Analyst, but I also notice that there are options to become a Scrum Master or Product Owner, more in management. It is clear to me what the options are. And it is also just nice to talk to someone about it, to brainstorm with someone, and that you have a permanent field manager who guides you.
So if you are looking for a flexible employer where you can have many different assignments, but also possibly stay on assignments for longer if that is what you are looking for, and if you also want to have contact with your colleagues within CIMSOLUTIONS, then it is definitely recommended to come and work here.
