I started as a software developer, grew to senior functional application manager and am now on my way to information analyst. This by obtaining certificates, following training courses and gaining the right practical experience.
After studying computer science, it was obvious that I would work as a software developer. With this expectation, I started my career.
After working as a software developer for 2 years, I discovered that my ambition and challenge lie more on the side of information analysis; specifically the business processes, analyzing and translating the information needs and how the information flow runs. When I knew for sure that I wanted to make the step to information analyst, I started looking into how I could make this career switch. With a different type of employer, I had the idea that it might take a very long time or that growth might be impossible. Through an attractive combination of education, training, certifications, knowledge sharing, guidance and a large training budget, in combination with varied work, it would be possible at CIMSOLUTIONS, if I was prepared to invest in my development.
Given my background as a developer, technical application manager was a good starting position towards my goal as an information analyst. In the past period, I have had the opportunity to work for various organizations as a technical application manager and then as a senior functional application manager. As a functional application manager, I have helped various customers translate their needs into functional specifications and optimize their processes. I have maintained contacts with internal and external IT suppliers and managed ongoing matters. My technical skills have helped me in this role to quickly make connections between business and IT. Due to my broad knowledge, responsibilities are often entrusted to me. As a result, I have helped several departments to further professionalize by introducing methodologies such as ASL2, BISL and Scrum. I can use this acquired knowledge well as an information analyst.
After working for a few years as a software developer, technical application manager and my current position as senior functional application manager, I am ready to take the next step towards my ambition. I have now built up enough knowledge and practical experience to take on the challenge. In the coming period I will obtain additional certificates such as TOGAF 9 and Business Intelligence Process Mining, follow training courses and combine them with the right practical experience.
