Project- & Program Management

Project and Program Management help in organizing a change to be implemented. Automation concerns Information Technology (IT) and is always in motion, as new methods and techniques are constantly being developed. The associated change in business operations is also often started on a project basis.

Traditionally, the approach to Project Management is that a group of specialists from various disciplines is formed around a task/assignment into a (program) team. At the start of the assignment, an image is formed of the products and services to be delivered, the required budget and the duration of the project. This is then used to manage the realization with ‘project controls’, the environment and stakeholders are continuously involved, and the ‘product delivery’ is managed.

At the start of an assignment, it will also be considered which approach is suitable. The factors ‘degree of agreement between stakeholders’ and ‘degree of certainty / predictability’ provide direction. Consider:

  • ‘simple’ – Project management
  • ‘complicated’ – Program management

For a ‘complex’ assignment, an Agile way of organizing can be used. In this, permanent teams are responsible for a defined part of the work; that is where their expertise lies and their experience develops, since the team remains in place for the long term. Work is therefore brought to teams – in contrast to projects, where employees are formed around a temporary assignment.

This may also mean that there is a combination of traditional management with agile production (‘delivery’) within customer environments; whether or not as part of a transition phase.
